Stevie Wander is our very special Chihuahua. He was born the runt of the litter, and he kept losing weight the first few days of life. We found out later that this is because his mouth is slightly deformed, which prevented him from being able to suck. So we decided to feed him with a syringe.
We do not know why Stevie was born with his handicaps, but we are very glad that we have the chance to share in his life. Handicapped dogs have a lot of love to give, maybe even more than a normal dog.
It wasn't until the rest of the litter opened their eyes that we realized Stevie did not have any eyes. We did not know whether Stevie might have other, life-threatening defects, but we continued to love and nurture him anyway.
He loves to run and play outside, even though he runs into a tree every once in a while. He especially loves playing with puppies, who seem to sense that he cannot see.
